Name in the UN
[edit]Is that true that it was known as Samoa in the UN since it joined? It seems most unlikely given that it wasn't its actual name at the time. Could someone please confirm? --CloudSurfer 23:38, 25 Sep 2004 (UTC)

[edit]While the American Samoa stamp (Image:Stamp-us-samoa.jpg) is a fine picture and a good picture of an ocean going canoe, it is an American Samoan stamp. Since most of the article is about the history of (Western) Samoa. I have changed the graphic to that of an old map of the Samoas from 1896. Please find an appropriate page for the stamp picture. Perhaps in Polynesian voyaging. --CloudSurfer 02:20, 26 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- Used it in Communications in American Samoa. Thuresson 19:49, 9 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Savage Islands?
[edit]The Savage Islands links to an island group in the Atlantic Ocean governed by Portugal. Are the Savage Islands in this article a different set of islands with the same name, or an error? Nik42 21:53, 24 July 2005 (UTC)
British Claims
[edit]Britain took the Solomon Islands, including Tonga and the Savage Islands. The articles on the Solomon Islands and Tonga don't mention any past of being ruled by the Kingdom of Samoa, and as mentioned above, the Savage Islands links to something in the Atlantic, so what does that have to do with Samoa? Nik42 21:55, 24 July 2005 (UTC)
- Hmm ... never mind, I think I've figured out what the confusion is. Nik42 21:57, 24 July 2005 (UTC)
Size Rank
[edit]I see that Samoa is listed a "165th" in the world, but when you go to the link of size ranks, it shows up as "169th" but I see no way to correct the sidebars on that page.
Votes for women
[edit]The Timeline of women's suffrage and Women's suffrage pages both claim that Samoan women didn't get the vote until 1990. This doesn't sound right - if it is wrong could someone please correct it? --Helenalex 22:44, 5 February 2007 (UTC)
- Women could be matai from a long time (and then vote or to be elected, even if it was probably not easy for them). The legal right to vote (for women and not matai) dates effectively from 1990. Nevers VLRAO
PreEuropean History
[edit]Any info on the history of Samoa before the Europeans were encountered? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.161.40.165 (talk) 03:39, 11 July 2008 (UTC)
Create "Kingdom of Samoa" Article
[edit]I Suggest to create a new article called "Kingdom of Samoa", using a number of informations from this page. Since Kingdom of Tahiti, Another Oceanic kingdom, has a Article for itself, and not Kingdom of Samoa. Not "Split" a section of this article to other article, but create a new article based on information there, since there's no template for it. JJUPLOADS22 (talk) 21:55, 25 January 2024 (UTC)
- @JJUPLOADS22: I would support your suggestion, as long as the new article ("Kingdom of Samoa") clearly states that the Kingdom ceased to exist in 1898–99, with the Second Samoan Civil War and the Tripartite Convention. There shouldn't be a nationalistic, false pretense that the modern Samoan state is the continuation of the Kingdom which ended in the 19th century, as modern Samoa isn't a monarchy but a parliamentary republic (especially since the death of Malietoa Tanumafili II in 2007). Not to mention that American Samoa exists as a completely separate entity. — Sundostund mppria (talk / contribs) 02:15, 2 April 2024 (UTC)
- Yea, since i'm working with other projects, will see if someone comes to the discussion and decides to make an Actual article about it. JJUPLOADS22 (talk) 17:14, 3 April 2024 (UTC)
- @JJUPLOADS22: I know what you mean. I don't have time myself to dwell into making the article, at least for now. But obviously, the article should be modeled according to already created, similar articles at Category:Former monarchies of Oceania. — Sundostund mppria (talk / contribs) 04:00, 4 April 2024 (UTC)

- I also think there should be an individual article about it AvailableViking (talk) 21:30, 11 August 2024 (UTC)
